There Are No Words...

>> Saturday, October 31, 2009

You know, there really are no words to explain how we all feel about our animals. They are so much a part of who we are that if you are reading this blog, I don't even have to explain what I mean.

Last night I went to the barn late (about 10:30) to deliver a cake that needed to be at the annual potluck and trail ride today. I couldn't be there because I had to work. Anyway, after I had the cake safely tucked away, I went into Tango's barn to say goodnight to him and give him an apple.

The boy was sound asleep. If horses could curl up in a ball, I would tell you that's how Tango was. Since they really can't curl up in balls, he was about as close as you can get. On top of that, he was snoring. He was so adorable I can't even tell you. I blew him a kiss and tiptoed out of the barn and.....

back to the car where Annabelle and Maddie had their little faces pressed to the window waiting for me. On the way home, I couldn't help but think how lucky I am...how lucky WE are. All of us have a special bond with our animals.

How can you explain that bond to a person who doesn't know the love that goes beyond just owning a pet? I don't think you can.

Anyway, I got way off track here. The video below is of a girl by the name of Stacy Westfall. She is riding her horse without a saddle or reins or even a halter. She is riding in a show where tensions run high. She is riding less than a month after the death of her father. She IS riding.

The bond between this girl and her horse is so evident, I had to share. You may need tissues...I did.

Hi Jan
You have that special bond with Madie and Annabelle, and Tango. That bond is deeper than the deepest sea.

I agree with you.
Somethings cannot be explained.
It's impossible to EXPLAIN this "Special Bond", that reaches from our inner guts, to someone who has never felt it. The bond that is so deep that it can cause the most hurtful pain at times when our pet is sick or at their loss - causing a broken heart.
I am thankful that I was given the gift of being able to feel the bond that you speak about.
My life would have been so empty without it.
Thank you for sharing this story with us.
And also - thank you for the video.
The video has left me speechless with simple little words "AWSOME LOVE"
It brings back so many memories.

I didn't know I'd need the whole box of tissues!

It's wonderful to know that other people "get it" about the special bond with animals. I've always had that bond and it's so hard to explain to those who don't understand. I don't have human kids but I'm pretty sure that I feel the same way about my furkids as they do about their non-furkids. Anyway, off to get another tissue!

Hi there Jan
I am tender today, so Im not going to watch your video...YET! (I will be back for it later though)

We are all familiar with the bond you are talking about - indeed my own post yesterday was about an 'INTIMATE MOMENT' which speaks of that incredible gift of a relationship with an animal. Think too about how (or would) that relationship alter if we couldn't speak...it is truly amazing!
With love to you and all of your special ones.

It feels good to know there are people out there that have that same feeling and you put it so well. And the video said it all. I too am very grateful for my pets and their unconditional love.
I needed the tissue too.

I have an amazing bond with my animals, too. I think back over the years to the extra special ones... My cat Smoochie, my dobe Jude... They knew my moods.

My three horses are so different, each special in their own way. There is nothing better than horsey snuggles!

Didn't Stacy win Road to the Horse a couple of years back? She is an awesome trainer! Talk about a bond... I'd need super glue for that ride!

Wow, Jan! That is really beautiful!

I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating our Lord today!

That's a great story and great video to share - I am sharing it with my friend who loves horses.

Pets know what we need when we need it. My cat Tubby, bumps my hand clear into the air, repeatedly until I notice him. How could i not notice him, he weighs 20 pounds. But he keeps at it until I start to laugh. Then he purrs and purrs. He knows I needed a laugh.
What we feel for them knows no ordinary boundary, but what is even more miraculous is what they feel for us.

I THINK she did win Road to the Horse, Lily. And you're right...she is awesome!

I just got finished reading all your comments and realized there's another bond...the one between all of us.

A bit late today, but just wanted to say that the video is brill and so moving. The bond between them is very precious and beautiful to see.

I can't say that my bond with my cat is the same, as I haven't as yet been able to teach him to walk backwards, but he does seem to think that I am some kind of guru as he hangs onto my every word. lol

Goodness girl, I had my jammies on at the hour and you were still out and about.

My energy is starting to come back; but to your level.

Did Mattie and Anabelle drive you home so you could rest? lol

Jan Mader November 3, 2009 at 7:05 PM

No...Chuck did! He didn't want us to go all the way to the barn that late by ourselves....He didn't think Maddie and Annabelle could do much protecting!
