The Human Animal - ME!

>> Monday, December 7, 2009

Please forgive me for taking so long to post (as well as comment on your blogs). As most of you know, I've been having some really bad back pain between my shoulder blades. It hurts to sit. It hurts to stand. It doesn't hurt to ride Tango...much!

At any rate, I had my MRI last Wednesday. On Friday the doctor called me back into his office to show me what was wrong. I have a cyst INSIDE my spinal chord called a syrinx. When I first got the diagnosis I was dumbfounded. I had never heard of anything like this before.

Then I came home and started to read....wrong thing to do. I spent a weekend in pain and scared. I'm calmed down now because I think what I read doesn't necessarily relate to me but I was wondering how many (if any) of you have heard of this before? It's knocked me off my game a bit!

Meanwhile, since this is a blog about our favorite kind of animals...the furry ones....I was distracted from over-thinking about my condition today. You want to know how? Well I'll tell you! I got an email from one of my rescue friends asking if I'd foster a dog from the prison system for awhile. Just the idea makes me happy. See what dogs can do even when they're not with you? Just thinking about Boomer the basset hound distracted me from my problems.

Thank God for dogs...and horses....and of course cats too!

Thank goodness you got it checked and know what it is - better to catch things than let them go. So glad the foster project is keeping your mind at ease with happiness! Feel better. We missed you!

Yes, animals, unlike husbands, never say the wrong thing. They are there just to comfort. I think we draw strength from these wonderful creatures that need us. Especially horses! To think that such a large animal depends on me and looks to me to be safe is really humbling.

Keep us posted on your back issue. Prayers...

Yikes...never heard of it. But momma had similiar pain two weeks ago. It was hard for her to even take a deep breath. Crazy stuff!

I haven't heard of it either but thankfully you know what is causing your pain so hopefully you can get it all taken care of. It's wonderful you can foster a dog that needs you as much as you need him right now!

Jan,
I am glad that you found out what is wrong, but am so very sorry that anything is wrong. Pain is awful.
It is so like to foster an animal right now. You will me a good mom for him.

Like so many others, I've never heard of anyone having the same problem as you. I've added you to my prayer list. God was certainly gracious in giving us animals.

Hi Jan,
I'm glad that you have found out what is causing your pain. I've never heard of this before either. I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. I will be praying for you, that the doctors will know just how to help you. Fostering a dog is a wonderful idea. Animals can be such a comfort. Take care.

Glad you're feeling better. The dog was in prison? How does that happen? Do they prisoners to have animals? Not fair to the animal to be in jail; they didn't get sentence.
