If Your Furry Friend Had a Job What Would It Be?

>> Wednesday, January 13, 2010

I was thinking about abstract ideas to use on my writer's blog as writing activities. A comment my nephew made kept running through my mind. His mother (my sister) is as much of an animal person as me...maybe more. She has a huge dog and several cats.

The last time I visited her, my nephew passed through the room and looked at their rolly polly cat stretched out on the couch and said, "Get a job!"

The more I thought about what my nephew said, the more I thought this blog would be a much better place to ponder my idea. All three of my animals have one job in common. They are my psychiatrists. They hang on my every word and seem to agree with everything I say.

If I'm feeling like I want to run and hide to get away from a problem the best thing I can do is stroke Maddie's soft fur and listen to her purr (yes, I know she's a dog, but she purrs anyway) or play with Annabelle.

Tango's just a bigger version of the girls. When I go ride, every thought or concern I have goes by the wayside and better yet, when I'm done riding it's as if I didn't have a problem in the world.

After I thought for a bit about the therapeutic side to my animals I let my mind really wander and think about what kind of jobs Tango, Maddie, and Annabelle could have. It didn't take long for a very exciting idea to explode.

Tango could also be a circus ringleader. Maddie and Annabelle could be his circus stars. I'm sure I could make millions and millions just doing what I love best...being entertained by my handsome boy and my sweet girls. We'd travel all over the place. When we got to your state, I'd be sure to let you know. You could come meet us face-to-face or better yet...you could join us!
Yup! The circus is in our future.

What jobs do you think your guys would like to have? Just curious!

Mikey would be a trainer. He walks the acreage with me. Dani would be a security guard; Elliott, a professional household pest remover; and Smoke would be ditch digger.

That was fun to think about!

Interior decorators. A little grass here, a little mud there and you have a great natural look to your house ;)

Bilbo would definitely be a drill sergeant or professional organizer...Dory, like your kids, would probably be a psychiatrist or maybe an actress....

Great question to ponder!!

Zoey would be a window washer... But I'm not sure the clients would like her technique of using her tongue!

No doubt about it Austin would be an animal rights campaigner as he's excellent at pleading his cause!

My big cat, Tubby would be a pillow tester. He would test them for softness.
The baby, Ozzy would be a tattle tail. She always tells on Tub when she thinks he has done wrong. She also could be a good burglar alarm. She alerts us to unseen dangers in the middle of the night by running up and down the hall yelling.

I have a couple of Goldens that already excel at being "professional in-home couch softeners." Every home needs one, or two or three...

Tweedles -- that's me January 13, 2010 at 9:20 PM

Hank- my brother kitty would be an acrobat
Kally my sister kitty would be a artist

Dispatch would be a prison warden or a dictator but could be a psychiatrist if ABSOLUTELY needed, and then only till something needed directing. There's a reason his name is Dispatch.

We would come to your circus! I think Tango would make a good Ringleader - I would definitely pay to see that!

D thinks I would make a good Customs officer - I am always smelling out bags - and once on the underground - I got inside a briefcase and grabbed the man's sandwich - it was ham! Can't help myself

Lots of licks

I (I'm a cat, yes) would probably be a writer... Or I could be a professional hunter. Or a sumo wrestler! Yeah! Or...all three!

Lillian Robinson January 14, 2010 at 12:20 AM

Mine already have jobs! The goats work 10-12 hr days clearing the woods. The cats keep the mice and other varmints out of the barn and house. Sadie cleans up all feed and grain spills, and acts as greeter. And the chickens make us breakfast... well, sorta.

Kat January 14, 2010 at 9:48 AM

Lets see, Annie (the big bird dog) would be in customer service. She is here to serve, no matter what and she aims to please.
Petey (little english bull dog sorta) would be in medical research, testing sleep aids. But, when duty calls he would be the great protector.
Buddy, on the other hand would not have an occupation because he is the most needy dog I have ever owned , constantly needing affection and attention and so very jealous. But he cannot help it, he had a very bad life before we adopted him.
This was a good writing exercise!

Chloe would be ... my boss!

RILEY AND STAR MY MALTESEKIDS January 16, 2010 at 2:23 PM

Me and Star want to be shadows when we grow up. Now, we know what your thinking, yeah shadows don't get paid much and not many people notice them or even care, but it's really a great job cause they never get lonely or lost. Think about it.

Luv,
Riley and Star.

If I had a pet, he or she would be yarn shop owner! Not very imaginative; but...think they would also be very knowledgeable about wine and serve wine at the yarn shop. hehe

Sandy

And I think the novelty of a pet owning a yarn shop that served wine would be on the news often, which would help spread the word about the homeless and how much help is needed...and then my blog Bridge and Beyond would be swamped with helping hands....yeah, I like it.

Great blog post! Great question. I do believe that Africa would be a food taster. I think she would fit quite nicely on man vs. food.
Stop by to meet Africa sometime.
