Two Stories in One

>> Sunday, March 14, 2010

Please forgive me for neglecting my blog this past week. I've missed reading yours and I plan to catch up in the next few days. Things have been totally chaotic to say the least. Between dogs and horses I've been quite busy. I can't complain though. I'm certainly doing what I love. I'll get to the horse story later this week. For now I want to share two stories with happy endings....those are the best kind, aren't they? Above is a photo of me, Sara, and my youngest son Ryan. Maddie's little head is in the shot too. Ryan came over to help me take Sara to the vet. I was afraid she wouldn't want to jump in the car and at 130 pounds, it would have been hard to lift her!

Ryan adored Sara. In fact, he threatened to kidnap her. I convinced Ryan that Sara had a good home waiting for her. Ryan...in fact all of my boys...grew up with Newfoundlands. If the right Newfie comes along, it will have a home with Ryan and Heather.

Sara sat nicely at the vet's office and waited her turn. She checked out just fine so she was ready to travel again. Today Sara reached her new home in Minnesota. I've talked to Sara's new owner, Sarah....yes, Sarah....and I'm happy to report that she couldn't be going to a better home. Owner Sarah sent me pictures of her dogs and her home. Dog Sara is about as close to Newfoundland paradise as she can get. Her long journey has come to an end.
While we were at the vet's office, Dr. French told us an awful story about a dog that had been brought into her office (the day before) by a good Samaritan. The dog (now named Petey) was being badly beaten with a baseball bat by a sick sick man. The good Samaritan got Petey away from the man...thank God. Sadly Petey was beaten so badly that Dr. French had to amputate his leg. She neutered him at the same time.

"Could you get Petey and his story out into your rescue network?" Dr. French asked me. "He's a sweet sweet dog. Just hours after I removed his leg he was up and out of his crate giving all of us kisses."

I posted Petey on Wednesday. Petey's story tugged at the heart strings of many good kind people. Today is only Sunday and sweet Petey has already been adopted. He has a home where his wounds will heal and his heart will mend. Petey will be loved but more than that, Petey will learn to feel safe and free from harm. Petey will give back all the love that he receives and then some.
The horrible man who did this to Petey is a measly speck of dirt who should be punished. The good kind people who came to Petey's rescue are the salt of the earth. They can find their reward in Petey's eyes.

I can't help but think that a man that could do something like that is only steps away from the mind of a serial killer. There is something very sick about a person that can beat a helpless animal. I wonder how he deals with people that make him angry...

Petey is so lucky! I'm glad he is safe.

I agree with you totally Lily. I have to focus on the good people or I'd go nuts!

I'm glad Sara and Petey have both found good homes. I can't bear to think of animals being hurt, it just makes me weep and so angry. As Lily said what about that guy's dealings with people?

In the UK certain dogs (like pitbulls, which are banned here) are being kept more and more, and are trained to kill. They are used as a weapon and a status symbol for thugs!

It's so sad, but I am healed by the wonderful look in Petey's eyes. I too wonder what kind of person would do such a thing. My heart is sore just thinking about it.

I'm about to cry! That poor soul. No dog should be hurt like that!!! I think someone that could do that do a dog is evil.

It hurts me so much to think someone could do that to a dog. I am very grateful that Petey has a new home!

I'm so happy for both Sara and Sarah. I cried when I read about Petey and so grateful there was a good Samaritan that stepped in. The vet, the Samaritan and Petey's new forever family are wonderful people. Bless all of them and you for helping connect the dots and find Petey a loving home.

I am so glad that Sara has got a home, well done.
Poor Petey what can we say, I could not say how we feel about this sort of behaviour. I will say that a guy like that I could do the same thing to him. I am so glad Petey has got a loving home too.

I believe that part of hell will be feeling all the pain you inflicted. (unless you repent) That man will get what he deserves.

Praise the Good Samaritan! That must have taken a bit of guts.

So glad for Sara and Petey now. Thank you for the wonderful work you do.

And I bet that Peteys heart was broken too.
That bad man, that beat Petey was heartless.

Thank goodness the Good Samaritan came along and resuced little Petey and took him to the vet. And I just bet someone is loving Petey to pieces, mending the broken heart and body, and wiping clean the terrible memory of the sadness.
Thank goodness for a happy ending.
And thank goodness for the wonderful ending of Sara getting a forever home and being happy now.
I know Sara will never forget the kindness and love that you gave her,
love

Oh, my goodness - what stories. I want to help - what can I do?

I'll never understand how people can treat dogs or cats so badly! I'm glad Petey found a new home so quickly.

I'm so glad petey had a happy ending. And hopefully the previous owner gets a similar fate like the demons in the movie ghost.

How can people be so cruel? Glad to hear he has seen that people can be loving too.

Sandy March 22, 2010 at 12:49 PM

What is wrong with people? No one makes anyone have a pet, if you don't want to care for them, don't have them. Don't get one and abuse it.

What kind of a dog is petey?
