Spectacular Weekend for the Girls and Me

>> Monday, September 21, 2009

The last weekend of summer was spectacular for me. We went to Lake Erie (where we've had a boat for years). The entire family managed to get together for this trip. Our daughter-in-law, Heather, has a family cottage at the lake so that's where we stayed.
Of course Maddie and Annabelle were with us. The girls were wound up tight. They were more excited than kids on Christmas morning.

In case your wondering why I'm holding Maddie in this picture, wonder no more. My obsessive compulsive King Charles Spaniel would not quit eating seaweed on the beach. After I downloaded this photo I took a closer look and realized I LOOK LIKE MADDIE. I'm going to have to give this one some thought!

Here we are on the Lake Erie beach. Annabelle is gazing intellectually towards the water and Maddie is blurred because she's flitting off to GET MORE SEAWEED!

The girls had a busy weekend. Alexa and Christian ( our grandchildren) took Maddie and Annabelle on walks and golf cart rides. In this photo they are waiting for my husband and son to take them for another cruise.

Annabelle is looking at the camera because I called her name. Maddie is looking backwards because she smelled hamburgers cooking on the neighbors grill.

The girls couldn't get enough of the fresh lake air. After walking and playing all day, Maddie finally sat down on the dock to take a breather. Either that or she was scoping out more seaweed or the scent of recently caught fish...who knows!

Even the thought of food couldn't move Maddie at the end of the day. The girl was plumb tuckered out. Annabelle was a willing pillow (probably just so she wouldn't have to watch Maddie flit around anymore).

By 10:15 on our last night, it was all over. The girls were down for the count. So was I! I can't think of a better way to spend the last weekend of summer than with all of our kids, our grandchildren, and the girls. The only thing missing was Tango. I'll have to figure out a way to get him to the lake with us next year. Any ideas?

Ok, now I have to know where on Lake Erie? I grew up in Dunkirk and Fredonia NY, and our family had a cottage on Lake Erie.

I love it when I get my dogs tired like that...The GLORIOUS thing about dogs getting tired is IF they want to, they can rest for one day..or two...whatever...Its ok!!
That is a wonderful weekend...Grandchildren keep my heart beating...I spent the weekend with my own too!!
As far as looking like your dog..well..I think WE could look like worse things!! What do you think? My hair is the exact same color as Bobs...He has several colors in his hair too!!

Glad you had a good time and Annabelle couldnt look any sweeter with those SWEET eyes!!

Looks like a wonderful day at the lake! I enjoyed the photos very much! I didn't know there was seaweed at a lake so I learned something today. As for Tango, horses love to walk on the beach here so I bet he would love to go to the lake too!

Our boat is at Port Clinton and Heather's cottage is on Catawba Island. It really is a neat place. It reminds me so much of the New England states....

How fun. I can't see me taking all 6 of my dogs there. I'd have the 3 big ones in the water, two that would be need to be held, and one that would be OCD about the feeling of sand.

What a beautiful weekend it was to be up by the lake! We didn't get up ther, but I know my father-in-law has had some fantastic fishing! It seems like not too long ago when the lake was too polluted to get much on the line for fish, let alone seeing seaweed (as opposed to garbage) washed up on the beaches!
Looks like the pooches loved it to - a tired dog is a happy dog (and a happy Jan too I bet!)

You betcha!

You are ahead of the game if you look like Maddie. I'm beginning to resemble my Basset Howard. I would rather look like the Greyhound Grace!

It looks like a splendid time, but I don't know how to accommodate Tango. I don't suppose anyone would want to share a room with him?

Jan Mader September 21, 2009 at 11:00 PM

I would, but I'm afraid a few others might object! LOL!

What fun!!! A whole family, sunshine, and 2 cute pooches. Too bad Tango couldn't go. Maybe he would have checked out the seaweed too.

Those poochies of yours are a real team, aren't they? I love that picture of them sleeping with their snouts side by side! Your descriptions oose the notion of 'special time together'. Yes, we need to enjoy every moment in life in all its facets. You were blessed with all the positives this weekend...and if your dog looks like you (or the other way around), I say...WHAT A COMPLIMENT!

How much fun! Does seaweed taste good? Then maybe she might like sushi ... or miso soup, that has seaweed in it, lol! That's funny about how you look like Maddie in the picture. Try a ponytail on Maddie - then you'll look different!

Our idea to get Tango to come - ride Tango there! Well, might be too far. Hmm, we'll have to think more on it...

Now that's an interesting thought! Since Tango also drives (pulls a cart) it might be easier on my body just to hook him up and head north!

Ok I have to say that I enlarged the photo of you holding Maddie to check on the alleged likeness! Now apart from the obvious hair down over the face thing, there is nothing much else to go on and anyway Maddie's tongue is way longer :P

Sounds like an idyllic weekend :)

It seems like a perfect weekend. Anytime spent at a lake has to be good, but combine it with family and pets nothing can be better.

Oh is there anything that could have been more fun? NOPE!
That musta been the "time of your lives" to have so much fun and having so many family members together! You and Maddie are adorable together- look at the two of you smiling! Prize winning smiles, I would say! And look at little Annabele prancing so proudly beside you.
The tucked out photos are adorable of the two girls. No words needed to be said.
I think those golf cart rides that those cute grandkids Alexa and Christain took- sounded like the perfect entertainment to me- besides the nice long walks.
Yes it was the perfect end to the summer- memories that will live in the heart forever.
As far as Tango- well, maybe you could have a barn sleep over? I bet he would go for that!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share the FANTASTIC, FUN photos and stories with us!
