Animals Are Living Well at the Columbus Zoo
>> Wednesday, June 10, 2009
I was watching the morning news this past week and was pleased to learn that our Columbus Zoo is ranked NUMBER ONE in the nation. Since my sister and niece were in town it seemed like a good time to travel to our famous zoo.
As we wandered around and through the vast areas, I couldn't help but be impressed by the naturalness of all the animal's habitats. While I understand that it would be terrific if all the animals were still in the wild, I was awestruck and impressed by the way that they live in captivity.
I found a quote by Gandhi (that you can see in the photo above) on a plank wall inside the aquarium area. It exemplifies why the Columbus Zoo is so excellent.
"The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
I think Gandhi's notion applies to more than the Columbus Zoo, don't you?

Most good kind people I know love animals. There must be a connection. Thank you for this thoughtful blog.
If I get to Columbus, I will visit your zoo!
I agree 100%
This is one of my favorite quotes.
Now I want to return to the Columbus Zoo - I haven't been in years and it sounds so great! It's very impressive that they have that quote by Ghandi, which I love!
It really is a remarkable zoo, on sooooo many levels. I have good memories from many stages of my own childhood; but even better ones from when my daughter was young and we would spend lots of time there.
Get this booked on your calendars folks.
Jan and I plan to return.

Thanks for coming by What I See Out My Window. I didn't publish your comment, there's an email link in my profile if people want to write to ask me to visit their blog.
Nobody from Columbus, thus far, has contributed their view. Perhaps you can point your camera out the window, get a shot and write a description of what you see that I can post. That gets you a link.
I have 10 blogs, if you're interested in doing some link swapping let me know. I'm writing this in a comment only because you don't have an email link in your profile.
Regarding the Columbus Zoo, I've been there twice, some years apart, and it was beautifully maintained, from what you could see, both times. No surprise it's rated as one of the best in the United States.
No place better to take the kids then to the zoo, just remember they get tired before we adults do.
