I Could Love this Face but...What is It?????
>> Wednesday, June 24, 2009
I was going through my draft posts today and found this photo. It was labeled "A Face Only a Mother Could Love."
I can't remember what kind of animal this is or why I saved it in my draft file. I must have had a good reason at the time, but who knows what it was....surely not me!
Since I'm getting ready to run out the door, I thought I'd post this interesting photo and let you tell me what it is...I have two ideas, but I'm just not sure. What do you think? I do believe it's so ugly it's probably cute!

It is so ugly that its cute. One of those sea cows maybe. I don't know but it is fun to look at.

Isn't that a Manatee? Oh, and I guess I am the odd ball one here, because I think it is ADORABLE!!!!
I'm back home again and still not sure what kind of animal that is, but the longer I look at it, the cuter it gets. In fact, T, I think you're right.
I'm going to ask my sons to take a look because both of the answers so far make sense to me.
Sons are always a good source...not as good as you guys of course, but good nonetheless!
Can't tell if it's on ground or in water in the picture. Can you tell from you actual photo?
Looks like a sea cow to me too, but....I agree with your thought it's a face only a mother could love. It's asleep isn't it?

Oh my...that face. I'm not sure what it is either. It sorta looks like it's in the seal family comparing it to the pictures of the seals on my travel blog? Maybe?
Hope one of the kids can tell you what it is.
Sandy
My husband says it's a sea lion too. Youngest son thinks it's a baby walrus! Good grief...I think we need an expert!
Hi
I think maybe a Sea Lion, and lives in the ocean.
I think its kinda cute

This is a female elephant seal! They colonize at Ano Nuevo and you can visit them except during the winter ruckus of the breeding season. Ano Nuevo is the largest breeding colony of this amazing marine mammal.
Drum roll please! We have our answer. Thanks, Anne!!!!
Oh, I was gonna say Elephant Seal but Anne beat me to it... NOT! I thought it was a manatee! I was pretty sure it lived in the ocean though...
Well darn, I googled Manatees and elephant seals (yes, I am stubborn) and all the photos I found he still looks like a Manatee, and all the female Elephant seals have whiskers. But....
I degress. *sigh* ;)
Oh no! What do you think, Anne? I'm pretty good at figuring out breeds of dogs, cats, and horses....When it comes to sea creatures, not so much!
