The Test

>> Tuesday, July 21, 2009

This is my niece, Janet. She’s a testament to how to tell a real animal lover from a person who tolerates animals. Notice Annabelle in Janet’s lap and Maddie right beside her?
Well, Janet was visiting us (straight from Switzerland) and she had work to do on her computer...real work. I watched as Annabelle squirmed her way onto Janet’s lap. Then I watched as Janet inched her computer out a little more to make room for Annabelle. Annabelle got more and more comfortable. Janet inched out her computer until it actually left her lap and was on her legs.
My niece truly loves my dogs and every other animal she comes into contact with. Janet didn’t push Annabelle away or tell her “bad dog.” In fact, Janet went out of her way to accommodate Annabelle and make sure she was comfy and cozy. She allowed Maddie to snuggle against her.
It’s little things like this that clearly illustrate REAL animal people. We know each other. We pick up on subtle actions like this that demonstrate respect, compassion, and love.
In my family, we come by this honestly. My parents were this way...from adopting stray animals to rescuing orphaned raccoons. Animals are so much a part of our lives that we cannot imagine living without them. Can you?

P.S. Annabelle finally warmed up and moved off Janet's lap but as you will notice, she didn't move too far away!

That reminds me of my sassy Sasha. When I am trying to read a book or look at a magazine, she has to be right in my lap, sometimes on part of the book. I am an animal person for sure, I find the affection very comforting. That was a very nice post.

I will sit somewhere else rather than disturb one of my cats who might be sleeping in my chair.
Do we spoil our pets? No, they allow us to treat them as they deserve to be treated.

Hi Jan
What nice words to the ears! I love to hear about people like Janet who are true animals lovers. Makes my heart very happy.
I am sure Maddie and Annabelle enjoyed her love as much as she enjoyed theirs.

I know exactly how she feels....as a matter of fact right now I have a dog by my side and one sitting on the arm of staring at me to put the laptop down and hold her. LOL But I wouldn't trade either of them or anything they are my sweet puppies.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

Jan,
That is a wonderful post..

Almost every morning I wake up in a awkward and probably uncomfortable position as I have one dog on one side of me and another that decided to cuddle on the other. It just works out that way and I dont mind one bit.
Before the doggie door at my house I was getting up sometimes twice every single night for a couple of years to let someone out and you know I didnt mind at all...Its just that way...
Your blog makes me happy...

I often find I'm competing with my cat for keyboard tiiiiiiimeeeeeeeee! lol. he has a very rich virtual social life! Despite what I say in my blog, he rules the roost - and why not? It makes for convivial living, when a mere human knows their place. And when animals are treated kindly, they respond in ways that are beautiful to behold.

BTW Thanks for visiting my blog (a while back now :)

I must find and post a similar picture. We were cat sitting for a friend a few years back, Brewster loved to work on the computer. Somewhere I've got a good photo of it. You'd love the photo. Right now though my allergies have me sneezing just thinking about it. I thought the meds were working yesterday; but today...this weather, really isn't helping.

Love the over head photo, very artistic of you. AND congrats...you got it posted.

Hope the rain lets up, not only because of my allergies, but would imagine it makes the work you need to do with Tango harder.

Rain Rain go away, come again another day.

We'd Love to See Who You Are - We Know You're Adorable for Sure!
